Where to start on Sitecore

As a Sitecore Solution Architect, I often get asked by partners and end users on where to start on Sitecore.

"How do we get off on the right foot when building Sitecore solutions?"

The short answer I give is to go to learnsitecore and read the article series about how to build a simple information site - especially the article about component based design:

The long answer can involve something about Domain Driven Design, configuration management, handling references, a lot of other topics and it can go on for hours.. :-)
