The latest version of Sitecore Content Management System is based on Office 2007 and will already be available to the customers this summer. Microsoft will not launch Office 2007 until the beginning of next year.

When Sitecore release Sitecore CMS 5.3 in July the version will be based on a user interface which no one else will have access to at this point in time – namely Microsoft Office 2007. This means that Sitecore’s customers can, before everyone else, enjoy the benefits which Microsoft Office 2007 offers.

“Microsoft has chosen to postpone the launch of Office 2007 but that does not influence our market plans. We have promised our customers Sitecore 5.3 this summer and we intend to fulfill this promise” says Michael Seifert, CEO of Sitecore Corporation which is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Focus on user friendliness

All the principles from Microsoft Office 2007 have been integrated in Sitecore 5.3. This means, in practice, that the user friendliness in 5.3 has been greatly improved and that website editors will enjoy a much simpler editing environment.

For example, Sitecore 5.3 employs toolbars which automatically adjust themselves according to the operation the editor is currently performing. If the editor is amending a table then the toolbar for tables is automatically shown on the screen. Equally, if it is time or version adjustments the relevant toolbars will also appear.

The joy of familiarity

From the outset Sitecore made a strategic choice to match the user interface of Microsoft products as closely as possible. This decision is based on the fact that the majority of people are familiar with Microsoft Office and specifically Microsoft Word.

With Sitecore 5.3 the customers will experience twice the functionality and a greatly improved usability. The product will be introduced in July as part of the continuous development of Sitecore products.

Immediately after the launch existing Sitecore customers will be able to upgrade their 5.2 solution and instantly benefit from all the new features of the new release.
