Ball State University Deploys Sitecore, Produces Award-Winning Website
Sitecore’s Web CMS enables BSU to win four awards from prestigious professional organizations in education and new media marketing
San Francisco, August 13, 2008 – Sitecore, the leading provider of .NET Web Content Management System (CMS) software, today announced Ball State University has deployed Sitecore’s Web CMS to support its website. Ball State chose Sitecore to revamp its 220 plus sites, integrating common new media applications and garnering a next-generation user experience. Now, Ball State maintains uniformity across all university websites and has enhanced its recruiting efforts through the site’s new, modern look and easy-to-use interface.
Since the website launch, Ball State has received four awards from prestigious professional organizations in education and new media marketing including the eduStyle Award for Best Overall Website. The eduStyle Award focuses on higher education, recognizing colleges and universities for innovative advancements in web development. Ball State also was a Webby Award Honoree in the school category, and winner of the Award of Merit in the Internet/Worldwide Web site category in the annual Admissions Advertising Awards given by Admissions Marketing Report. Additionally, the website won the Circle of Excellence Award in the complete institutional Web site category, from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
Ball State surpassed visitors’ expectations with Sitecore’s technology, offering prospective students and faculty the ability to maneuver easily around the site, accessing information about the university and services. Over 600 people across the campus participate in editing the websites, representing a spectrum of departments, faculty, staff and students, and Sitecore effortlessly supports both the PC and Mac users. Sitecore is integrated with Ball State’s Google Search Appliance and an internally developed calendar, with integration plans for a number of other community oriented applications.
“Sitecore has allowed us to push the envelope further than we ever thought we could,” said Nancy Prater, university web coordinator at Ball State. “We are extremely proud of our new site and how it reflects our story, who we are as a university and where we are going. We are now able to get our message across to various audiences and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. With the aid of our revamped site, we have already seen a 17 percent increase in applicants. And, on the technical side, we have built a solid foundation for the future. The best is yet to come!”
Prior to deploying Sitecore’s technology, Ball State’s websites were too difficult for non-technical content managers to use. This often resulted in inconsistent messaging and typos on the website. The user-friendly interface now gives site editors, which include non-technical users such as faculty and students, the ability to easily make updates to the website. As Sitecore’s interface mimics Microsoft Office 2007, which many campus members were already using or would be willing to convert to using, it provided Ball State with a seamless transition to Sitecore’s Web CMS. In addition, increased scalability allowed Ball State to ensure consistent and accurate messaging across its websites.
“Sitecore’s Web CMS has enabled Ball State to evolve from multiple websites that had coordination, brand management and consistency challenges, to an enriched website offering a compelling user experience,” said Darren Guarnaccia, Vice President Marketing of Sitecore. “We congratulate Ball State on the multiple awards, which reflect the Ball State web development group and demonstrate the possibilities with our Web CMS.”
