Heineken Wins Sitecore Site of the Year Award 2011 in the United Kingdom

Eight Leading Brands Also Recognized for Successful Digital Strategies

San Francisco – November 28, 2011 Sitecore, the company that has redefined Web Content Management, announced today that Heineken.com has been awarded the Sitecore Site of the Year for 2011 in the United Kingdom. Heineken.com was redesigned by digital agencies AKQA and Macaw using Sitecore’s Web Content Management platform. In addition, Heineken developed a new interactive online game, Star Player, using Sitecore’s software.

Each year Sitecore’s Site of the Year awards recognizes organizations that leverage Sitecore’s technology to develop an outstanding Web presence and to deliver engaging digital experiences. The winners are chosen for their ability to use Sitecore’s Web and online marketing solutions to deliver more effective business processes that advance digital strategies. The Sitecore judges considered creativity, integration with applications such as CRM, use of engagement analytics, dynamic personalization, mobile optimization, search engine optimization (SEO), overall website visitor experience and the ability to educate, inform and motivate an action.

“Heineken has achieved revolutionary global consumer engagement,” said Laust Sondergaard,” chairman, Sitecore UK. “Not only is Heineken the most ‘Liked’ beer brand on Facebook, but with Heineken’s Star Player game, fans can watch matches on television while playing along in real-time on a computer, iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. In today’s online world, you need a powerful Web marketing platform that allows marketing campaigns to be deployed when needed, in several languages and with controls to manage age-restricted content. This is key to developing and maintaining a strong community of online fans.”

Working with Sitecore partners, AKQA and Macaw, Heineken implemented Sitecore’s Web platform to launch a new online strategy, global website and interactive game. Heineken’s goal is to be in 50 markets in more than 30 languages by the end of this year.

The Sitecore implementation includes third-party integration services to applications such as OpenID, OAuth, and Heineken’s eCommerce platform. The Star Player game, available on mobile devices, won the gold Cyber Lion in the Mobile Advertising category during the 58th Cannes Festival of Creativity, the advertising industry’s most prestigious event.

While Microsoft SharePoint has worked well for GuideStone as an internal, file sharing system, in order to meet their goals, Guidestone needed a CMS that would provide a solid integration foundation—which is Sitecore’s strength.
