Virk.dk upgrade to Sitecore technology

Monday, August 9, 2004

In just a few months Krak has upgraded the entire Virk.dk to the Danish company Sitecore’s technology. The upgrade was performed as Krak required a faster, more flexible, future-proof solution.

Virk.dk passed all acceptance tests immediately. In very strict operating conditions the Sitecore solution provided 100% up-time and 99,99% of pages were delivered in under a second. These results surpassed requirements and expectations.

“With the Sitecore product Krak was able to deliver the upgrade in an amazingly short time. By comparison, I understand that IBM used around 80 million krone to establish the previous Virk.dk – and based on that calculation I can be very proud of our product”, said CEO, Michael Seifert from Sitecore A/S.

Sitecore is the central and critical fulcrum for the entire Virk.dk. Editors deliver and publish content to the portal via Sitecore, development of new functionality is released by Krak via Sitecore and the website is delivered by Sitecore to the portal visitors.

“Sitecore now constitutes the core of one of the most prestigious Danish Internet projects, that according to Reuters was decisive in placing Denmark as the world’s best Internet Country in April 2004,” continued Michael Seifert.

Krak were fully responsible for the development and implementation of Virk.dk, and therefore Sitecore will not only add a prominent name to the customer portfolio, but the list of Partners will also become a name longer. In parallel with the development of Virk.dk, Krak are also working on a number of new portal projects for which Sitecore will provide the platform. Amongst those is the Ministry of Education’s well established guidelines-portal.

“We required a CMS which we could tailor to Virk.dk on an ongoing basis. One of the ideas behind the site is that it should continuously reflect the needs that companies have. That need is in constant development, therefore so also should Virk.dk be. With Sitecore we have a solution that does not set technical limitations before our visions,” said Krak’s CIO, Kerny Ustrup.

Microsoft Denmark is also pleased that a high profile project of such as Virk.dk have chosen Sitecore, that is based on the .NET technology. Microsoft Sales Director Dan Bælum is enthusiastic about influencing a portal which will become such an important part of Danish business life.

”Virk is a project that we are proud to provide the technology for. Such a visionary project places major requirements on the technical solution, that must simultaneously be functional, stable and fast. Together with Sitecore we have a really strong product that doesn’t just satisfy the immediate requirements, but will also be valid many years into the future”

Microsoft and Sitecore have had a good partnership for a long period, for example Sitecore attended this years CeBIT exhibition in Hanover along with Microsoft. “We are naturally very pleased when a product of such innovation, associated with our technology, delivers such good results,” Continued Dan Bælum

Kasper Kjærbye Larsen, VP Sales at Sitecore, is not only content with the success of this deal but also hopes that this order will pave the way into new business areas where Sitecore has enormous potential growth.

“We believe that this new cooperation will create visibility with respect to Sitecore’s potential in the area of portals and more strategic web projects. We have long had the capability to deliver, so we see this as a major potential growth area. Virk.dk is visible proof that Sitecore is a clear option when similar projects are considered in the future. Therefore we hope that this cooperation will gives us resonance in the market” said Kasper Kjærbye Larsen.
