Sitecore launches version 5.0 at CeBIT 2005

Monday, february 14, 2005

After the best year yet in the history of Sitecore, the CMS Company, will now use the CeBIT fair in March to present the new version of their Content Management System. The new version will maintain and develop Sitecore’s strong position on the market for developer-oriented CMS.

A revolutionary new Internet user interface and the utilization of the main principles of Longhorn – an entire year in advance of Microsoft’s launch of the new version of Windows.

This is what the guests to this year’s CeBIT fair will be presented to on the Sitecore stand. The software vendor will be introducing the next generation of their successful Content Management System, which continuously gains more and more market share in the field of developer-oriented CMS.

Again this year, Sitecore has been invited to share the stand with Microsoft. And though the launch of Longhorn is planned for 2006, Sitecore is already able to demonstrate how the principles of Longhorn successfully may be used for ground-breaking Internet based solutions. The new version of Sitecore will already be released on April 1st 2005.

The good partnership with Microsoft was highlighted in 2004 when Microsoft awarded Sitecore ISV Partner of the Year – among other things because of Sitecore’s very fast implementation of new functions from the Microsoft .NET framework, as well as the close integration to the Microsoft Office products.

XAML

The new Sitecore CMS, version number 5.0, is still a complete .NET application in which the user interface now has been converted to XAML. In Sitecore this gives the opportunity, among other things, of a so-called ’web-desktop’, which gives the users what corresponds to the Windows user interface on the Internet. This offers completely new possibilities, which would normally not be available in old-fashioned Internet based applications.

At the same time, Sitecore has made the back-end of the CMS independent from the platform. First of all this enables Sitecore editors to work from all browsers on PC, Mac and Linux. Secondly, Sitecore, as a pure .NET application on the server-side, can be developed on a Linux server via the Mono project.

In addition there are an enormous range of new functions which Sitecore has developed in close collaboration with customers and partners who use the system daily. For example, document comparison, Portal (web-desktop technology), advanced workflow and link ”carousel”.

Expansion

V5 hits the streets after a year, where Sitecore accelerated expansion outside of Denmark. This is also true for the German company, which already has well established companies in its portfolio; for example, one of the world-leading chemical companies: the German Beiersdorf producers of, amongst other products the well known Nivea brand.

“Beiersdorf is a very important customer for us on a market that is known for its tough competition. The major contract with Beiersdorf is a satisfying proof that we are continuously winning larger and larger contracts which confirms our position as supplier of a world class software product,” says the Sitecore VP Sales, Kasper K. Larsen.
