Braathens Aviation Takes Off With Sitecore
New Intranet Portal Offers More Collaboration with Social Network Features
Stockholm, Sweden, May 6, 2009 –
Sitecore, the leading provider of .NET Web Content Management System (CMS) software, today announced that Braathens Aviation, a Scandinavian airline, selected Sitecore to build a new intranet platform. Sitecore’s Intranet Portal solution includes Web 2.0 functionality such as content tagging, blogging and other social networking features. The new intranet makes it easier for Braathens Aviation’s employees to participate interactively with organization updates, while creating their own content directly within the intranet. The agreement includes licensing for up to 800 users.
“After an extensive procurement and comparison with other established CMS vendors, we chose Sitecore, because we believe that the company offers a cost-effective, open, professional and easy-to-use Web platform that can be easily customized for our needs,” said Fredrik Nilsson, Director, Internal Systems, Braathens Aviation. “Internal communications is very important to us – however it has been a challenge. The new intranet portal will help us communicate more effectively while fostering an environment of collaboration and interactivity.”
Braathens Aviation required a solution that offers integration with Microsoft SharePoint for document management. In addition to the traditional information publishing requirements, Braathens chose Sitecore for the following functionality:
- Content based
- Database-driven architecture with search engine
- Project and document management
- Personal customization of the front page
- Blog and chat functionality
- Survey and investigation functions
- SMS functionality
- List functionality as to-do-list
- User statistics
- Multimedia features such as video integration
- Microsoft Office and Active Directory integration
- Calendar functionality
- Support for several languages including Swedish, Norwegian and English.
“We are convinced that more companies like Braathens will upgrade their intranets with Web 2.0 functionality,” said Magnus Winterman, General Manager for Sitecore in Sweden. “The trend for implementing intranets is increasingly moving towards user generated content where employees can easily publish their own information and collaborate with colleagues. The functions and facilities required for social media activities are part of the base functions within the Sitecore Intranet Portal, rather than an add-on, which often is the case with many competing CMS systems.”
Sitecore launched its Sweden office in the fall of 2008, to meet the growing demand for CMS products. In Sweden, Sitecore currently works with fifteen partners. Sitecore’s Intranet Portal for Braathens Aviation will be implemented by Guide Market Solutions in Malmö, a well-known consulting company that has been a Sitecore partner since 2004.
