Managing Local and Corporate Content Across Multiple Languages -- With Seamless DAM Integration

This manufacturer needed to think bigger and smarter in terms of producing and managing marketing material in more than 20 languages. Working with Sitecore partner, Pentia, they built their site on Sitecore.

Sitecore’s extensibility has made this possible. The integration of the DAM takes Sitecore to the next level, and the extensions to the Sitecore Content Editor, makes it easy for content editors to differentiate between local and corporate content for many websites.

Challenge

Oticon is one of the world’s largest hearing aid manufacturers. Their new website is a corner stone in the launch of their new corporate brand. Oticon wanted to think bigger and smarter in terms of producing and managing marketing material such as images, videos, white papers and other digital assets.

Sitecore CMS and DigiZuite™ DAM were selected as foundation for the new system, creating a transparent integration between the two systems, and thus providing Sitecore CMS with a full blown DAM system. This enterprise-level system would serve as a single source for digital media assets for both online and offline marketing production.

Goals for their new web site included:

  • Multiple languages and multiple sites: With 20 languages and 20 websites containing both corporate and local content, Oticon wanted to be able to push content from the corporate headquarters out for translation in each of the local countries. At the same time they locally would need to create content, that should not appear on all of the other sites.
  • Digital Asset Management: All images, PDFs and videos on the website would need to be stored in DigiZuite™ DAM, a Digital Asset Management system. The DAM would need to be seamlessly integrated into the CMS.

Solution

Working with Sitecore partner, Pentia, Oticon chose Sitecore as their CMS.  In close cooperation with the project team at Oticon, Pentia have implemented the new corporate website for Oticon based on Sitecore CMS, and also integrated Sitecore’s Web Forms for Marketers, and DigiZuite™ DAM.

Oticon, being a part of the William Demant Holding group, had much larger visions, than just a website and system for Oticon. The website created for Oticon is part of a framework that has been used to create other websites as well.

During this process Pentia extended the framework with a number of extensions to the Sitecore Content Editor, including visual page marking, validators, a new language toolbar and more. This all makes it easier to maintain multiple languages and websites in one solution, having a consistent look and feel for content editors in many countries. These features can be included in a concrete website based on the framework. This allows for the use of various features from the Framework according to the needs on the individual solution.

Finally, Pentia created new XSLS extensions and ACX extensions to allow for typeface rendering of text in Sitecore in basically any font while keeping the site accessible.

Result

The new Oticon site went live, and the project was a success.

According to Jacob Surland, Pentia, "Sitecore’s extensibility has made this possible. The integration of the DAM takes Sitecore to the next level, and the extensions to the Sitecore Content Editor, makes it easy for content editors to differentiate between local and corporate content for many websites."
