Best Customer Experience in Healthcare: University Hospitals
Sitecore Partner: Rosetta
University Hospitals was founded in 1866 with the vision "To Heal. To Teach. To Discover." Since its inception, UH has remained on the forefront of innovation. In pursuit of its mission to provide high-quality, patient-centered medical care throughout Northeast Ohio, UH began its transformation in 1993. Evolving from a traditional, single-site academic medical center, the hospital expanded into one of the nation’s leading health care systems. In 2012, UH employed more than 24,000 physicians and staff, ranking it Northeast Ohio’s second largest private sector employer. UH also performed more than 4.5 million outpatient procedures and discharged nearly 63,000 patients that year. Facilities within the UH system include University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals; University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, holding the National Cancer Institute’s highest designation; and University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital, Ohio’s only hospital for women.
In 2011, Rosetta partnered with University Hospitals to replace their aging CMS with Sitecore as the interactive marketing platform for the future. To meet the needs of both the patient and physician visitors of the site, Rosetta worked with UH to develop a fresh user experience around the 50,000+ content items UH maintained.
The large amount of content combined with the need for connecting patients to practitioners made a robust search solution a key priority within the architecture. Integrating Apache SOLR with Sitecore provided the technical foundation to enable users to find articles, events, locations or physicians while searching by keyword, name, specialty or location. Keeping physician information on the website accurate and up-to-date was another key challenge for UH. Making use of Sitecore's extensibility, Rosetta integrated practitioner data from UH's internal systems and leveraged existing processes for updating physician information managed by the organization's internal credentialing team. The primary conversions for visitors on the UH website have always been the appointment request and physician referral forms. By integrating these forms with Dynamics CRM , Rosetta was able to deliver the data collected on the web to the UH Call Center representatives where requests were processed and managed within the CRM. Rosetta continues working with UH to enhance the site experience, adding features such as Google Maps and Directions for physician offices, as well as extending the management of content to other business units within the organization.
Since the redesigned site for UH was launched in July 2012, the organization was recognized by eHealthcare Leadership Awards program with a Gold Award for Website Design in the Children's Hospital category.
Best Customer Experience in Insurance: XL Group

XL Group, a global insurance and reinsurance company, required a new website with dynamic features, taxonomy-driven logic, and globalization. To support that vision, they required a reliable CMS to manage all the new content, tagging, and processes. Sitecore was the right platform for XL Group’s goals and size. Huge was able to address the XL Group’s needs by creating a dynamic modular website with supporting workflows, complex data entry templates, SEO, taxonomy and easy language versioning, along with on-demand preview and publishing. Best Education Site in Canada: Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto
Sitecore Partner: non-linear creations
Rotman engaged non-linear creations (NLC) to create an online experience that would mirror their innovative approach to business education and their modern persona. Prior to the Sitecore integration, Rotman’s site was operating on a number of different platforms and systems; and lacked a reliable content management tool making routine updates cumbersome. The look and feel of the site was dated and had limited use of multimedia and social media tools, which was misaligned with the creative reputation of the school and its community. A property with a unified platform was necessary for better performance and to showcase the Rotman brand digitally in the best possible light. Also, for Rotman, the multi-author/multi-workflow support; the ability to create flexible templates and ability to expand into DMS capabilities in later phases of the project was appealing. For all these reasons, the choice to go with Sitecore was easy. The new site features large, dynamic images in a full-screen parallax scrolling vertical slider, bringing a sense of motion and innovation to their homepage. These themes continue throughout the site with videos, images and social feeds bringing life to every page. Bold colours and large icons reinforce Rotman’s position as an innovative, modern business school.
Best Education Site in the USA: University of Chicago Booth School of Business
Sitecore Partner: NTT Data and Designkitchen
Established in 1898, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business is the second oldest business school in the United States. They have permanent campuses on three continents (North America, Europe and Asia) and they are one of the leading business schools in the world. The school’s faculty includes many renowned scholars and its graduates include many business leaders across the U.S. and worldwide.
The Chicago Approach to Management Education is distinguished by how it leverages fundamental knowledge, its rigor, and its practical application to business challenges. Chicago Booth offers a full-time M.B.A. program, an evening M.B.A. program, a weekend M.B.A. program, and an executive M.B.A. program in Chicago, London and Singapore.
For many years, Chicago Booth had a website that was out-dated. It no longer represented the brand very well nor did it support the engagement- evolution of their many audiences. When the time came to create a new website, Chicago Booth partnered with Designkitchen and NTT DATA to design and develop a new website to provide an enhanced user experience with a more stable and scalable back-end platform.
One of Chicago Booth’s key requirements was to ensure that their 200 + content authors (staff, faculty, student groups and alumni clubs) would have the ability to continue to operate in a distributed content model which allows the authors to update the website on their own. In order to meet the goals of the client and to maintain the quality of the website, Sitecore was selected for its highly flexible workflow to help Chicago Booth manage and maintain their content. For this project, the Sitecore workflow was extended to specify who can approve an item at the item level while using the standard Sitecore Security Editor.
During the development, NTT DATA leveraged many out of the box Sitecore features to implement a university calendar, news center, campus maps, online blogs and standard web forms communications. All of these components were developed to allow editing in both content and page editor modes. NTT DATA also integrated Chicago Booth’s existing faculty directory and alumni websites into the final Sitecore solution and leveraged Google Search Appliance for the website search capabilities.
Since the launch, the new website has been well received by internal users and external users and has produced a better over-all representation of University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Best Financial Site: American Express
Sitecore Partner: SolutionSet
The American Express Global Corporate Payments division (American Express GCP) provides integrated solutions to help global mid-size and large corporations manage their business spending. These solutions offer a number of proprietary services and tools that can foster clearer insights, improve efficiencies, and ultimately lead to higher potential cost savings compared with other similar services.
The challenge posed to Sitecore Partner, SolutionSet, was to help American Express re-launch their GCP websites in a coordinated manner, utilizing their new brand standards and an integrated SEO strategy. These sites also needed to be localized for all global markets as well as designed to accommodate a manageable level of easy updates driven by each of the regional marketing leads.
Understanding the project’s challenges and the need for an editable and scalable solution, the SolutionSet team consulted with American Express on using a single instance of a Sitecore CMS as the core content distribution platform. SolutionSet added key customizations to address the complex SEO requirements American Express had and scaled the site for the American Express top 20 global markets, including unique versions for multi-language markets (Canada, Taiwan, Japan, and Netherlands). The instance is deployed across 12 different language families and 19 language variants.
Not only is American Express seeing a significant boost in traffic via SEO, but they are also realizing tremendous efficiencies in program management throughout all their global regions. But the part that the team is most proud of is what is never seen by the client or the end user: the single Sitecore instance managing thousands of pages of content in a seamless manner. The amount of resources and time needed to make changes has dropped dramatically for American Express due to structured content coordination capabilities.
