About Top of the Web
Internet technology enables the public sector to meet the needs of all citizens - around the clock. Through an easy-to-access form, user-friendly technology and eventually electronic self-service options on a larger scale, government websites allow citizens to deal with the public sector quickly and at their convenience. However, the quality of Danish public sector websites varies significantly at the present time, and there is an urgent need to focus on the quality of those websites. That is why The Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has initiated a series of initiatives entitled Denmark on the Web. Their aim is to ensure better service and higher quality, greater openness towards the public, greater security on the net and increased efficiency in the public sector.
The project Top of the Web is one of these initiatives - meant to emphasize the importance of serving the public well - also on the net. Through an annual evaluation of all public sector websites and the users' opinions on the service they encounter, Top of the Web aims to determine whether the service given by public sector websites is satisfactory. The evaluation will hopefully serve as an aid to self-help for the authorities that wish to improve the quality of their websites. By focusing on the quality, the assessments should not only inspire further development but also foster improvements where the individual organisation is lagging behind.
The objective is first and foremost first class digital public service.
