Denmark is in the midst of a fundamental reform of the public sector. Larger and more sustainable municipalities will be given the responsibility to handle most of the citizen-related tasks. The reform will see a move from 271 municipalities and 14 counties to 98 municipalities and five regions. It is expected that larger local authorities especially on IT and administration will benefit from economies of scale.
