Next generation website for BIMCO

BIMCO, established in Denmark in 1905, is the world's largest international shipping association, with approximately 2.400 members in 123 countries, has just launched their next generation website based on Sitecore CMS.

New features
BIMCOs new website has been redesigned entirely and a lot of new features have been implemented. The main focus has been to make the website more user-friendly and give the members a new set of tools to find the information they need. For instance, one of the new features called MyBIMCO gives each employee of a member-company the ability to create his/her own portal and signup to various topics either by mail or by an individualized RSS feed.

Another noticeable feature is the ”BIMCO Pilot”, which finds related content by using Ankiro´s Site Search search engine, which in it self also is a first-time integration on the Sitecore platform. The BIMCO Pilot is available to all visitors at all times, making it easy to navigate through BIMCOs extensive website, counting well over 100,000 individual pages.

W3C standards and cross-browser ability have been very much in focus during the implementation, which has resulted in very lean and lightweight XHTML markup documents based entirely on CSS to handle the appearance. Hence, the documents are logically ordered, serving the information in a straight-forward and focused way, assisting the visitor (as well the various search engines), regardless of whether he/she is using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera or Safari.
