Datacom’s primary activities are:

1. Systems Development and Support – information architecture, web design, software and systems architecture, design, development /customization, integration, support and maintenance of software applications. They support all of the main technology platforms including Microsoft .Net, Java and Oracle. Examples include Census Online web application for Statistics New Zealand, development of the Government Logon System for the State Services Commission, and Animal Health Board Disease Management System. Their systems development capability spans numerous types of systems including core information systems, web content systems, electronic documentation and records management systems, workflow, integration, business intelligence and geographical information systems.

2. Systems Management – design, implementation and support of technical infrastructure including all hardware, network and data centre infrastructure, hosting, systems administration and outsource services. Examples include hosting and support of the national border control environments for NZ Customs and hosting and full outsource support of the national technology infrastructure for Child Youth and Family Services.

3. Technology Consulting – consulting with clients to deliver technology strategy and specific high-end and outcome-based technology consulting services; these assist organizations to achieve their business goals through the strategic and cost effective use of technology, people and process. Examples include consultancy exercises for Toyota to review Identity and Access management options, and for Inland Revenue to review its RSA Cleartrust implementation.

4. Business Process Outsourcing – call centers, payroll, administrative outsourcing, printing and mail-out services. Examples include the outsource payroll for Ministry of Education, with over 80,000 payees fortnightly, Australasian Level One call centre support for Microsoft and national ticketing services for Toll Holdings.

5. Engineering – equipment service and repair, advanced IP solutions, and security products. Examples include national break-fix services for NZ Post with over 350 Post Shop locations nationally, and for the Accident Compensation Commission with on-site support of over 2,500 staff nationally in the ACC Service Centers.
