The main purpose of Gentofte Kommune’s website is to enable the citizens of Gentofte to serve themselves, and also to find information about the municipality and the city. They also wanted to show that public websites can in fact be beautiful, radical and effective at the same time. Gentofte.dk has used adaptive design that utilizes the newest front-end HTML and CSS standards, ensuring that the design adapts to every single platform perfectly, from mobile to TV.
Gentofte Kommune wanted to take advantage of Sitecore’s newest product innovations and features after having successfully worked with Sitecore CMS 4.0 for a number of years. When planning to launch a new website, they decided to upgrade their Sitecore CMS solution at the same time.
Gentofte Kommune’s goals for the new site include:
Creating the best municipal website in Denmark
Coming closer to citizens' everyday lives
Increasing efficient interaction and dialogue between the citizen and the Municipality of Gentofte by offering user friendly digital self-service solutions (strategic goal to move from personal inquiries to digital self service).
Integration of e-democracy by public digital hearings and debates
Focus on accessibility and usability in IA, functionality, design and content
Securing that the site that lives up to the international WCAG standards (level AA) through test and validation
By implementing a new information architecture and a new appealing visual identity Gentofte Kommune strived to provide a better user experience
Gentofte Kommune specifically wanted to be able to create adaptive pages so that the content would always match the user’s needs spot-on.
Mie Gudmundson, Communications Officer, Gentofte Kommune states: “We were happy with Sitecore CMS and we wanted to continue working in this system in order to further improve our site, the user experience and the visitor/citizen loyalty for our website. By continuing to use Sitecore in our organization, instead of choosing a new CMS, we also wanted to please and motivate our many local editors. We experienced that the new version was highly recognizable yet more flexible with updated features. Furthermore, we were content with the system’s ease of integration of third-party systems.”
Working with Sitecore partner, DIS/PLAY, they extended the Sitecore solution by integrating with third-party systems, including DIVA, “Genvej,” “DriftWeb” and Google Analytics:
- DIVA is a database that integrates with Sitecore in order to provide contact information to departments and other units in our organization and information such as opening hours. The database content is brought automatically to the website.
- “Genvej” (Danish for “Shortcut”) is a portal for a large number of digital self service solutions aimed at the citizens of Gentofte Municipality.
- “DriftWeb” (“Drift” is Danish for “production”) is a web-based reporting system that allows citizens to report errors and disruptions through the websites service "Giv et vink" (Danish for "Give us a hint"). The well-known web analytic solution Google Analytics is integrated in order to give Gentofte Kommune rich insights into their website traffic.
The website's new design is inviting and contemporary. The site is user-friendly and thus easy to use and navigate. The website will encourage even more people in Gentofte Municipality to go online and serve themselves digitally. The strategy is a long series of online self-service solutions that match people's needs. The goal of the new website is quite generally coming closer to citizens' everyday lives. The site complies to the maximum extent the international standards prescribed by the W3C organization.
DIS/PLAY customized the "give us a hint" services that allows citizens to report real-life issues on public property (graffiti, broken street light, etc.) directly from their smartphone, to their back-end system and to Sitecore that publishes the carried out works to the website.
“The new site engages with beautiful design, functions and a huge focus on call-to-action for the user/citizen. It’s not just another informational website”, says Creative Director at DIS/PLAY, Steffen Blauenfeldt Otkjær.
Other technologies used on the site include the Ankiro seach engine, CB geodata, as well as integration to the existing AD, CRM and ERP.
