Late last week, Gartner published its 2010 WCM Magic Quadrant. I’ll share my thoughts and hope you’ll share yours. The BIG news for Sitecore was that we are the only .NET vendor in the leaders quadrant.
It is fantastic to see Gartner’s recognition of Sitecore’s leadership in this space. Sitecore is positioned near some of the biggest companies in software: Oracle, Autonomy and Open Text. The Sitecore vision and strategy is at the head of the pack. The light of our mission shines through; we focus on customer success through WCM and solutions that help our customers and partners create the best online experiences. Our "ability to execute" position dramatically rose from last year’s MQ as we continue to build our global presence, partner network and customer base. I also believe we are getting a lot of credit here not just for the shear increase in our customer numbers, but in the success of our customers. While new clients sign with Sitecore every week, we work very hard to keep our clients and partners happy.
I am thrilled to see Gartner acknowledge and write that Mobility is one of our strengths. Even if all users aren't building mobile friendly sites now - they need to be at least developing their mobile plans. Mobile data traffic is growing at astounding rates across the globe and we will continue to support our customers and partners to embrace this fantastic trend.
Usability has been and will always be a critical element in WCM selection - for IT, for business users and for marketers who are building and using customer data to refine the customer experiences. It is very rewarding to read that "The usability of Sitecore's offering continues to be one of the best within the market and is highly acclaimed by the many different user types that work with the solution".
From this report, I also learned that Gartner perceives that Sitecore "needs to articulate more effectively how the successful deployment of its offering can relate directly and measurably to the business goals of the enterprise, and then follow up consistently." This we can and will do. We’ve grown very quickly and we’ve spent more time building and releasing leading products, than articulating messages – but we’ll do it more now. As we work with our clients and partners, we will evaluate and measure the business goals customers make and surpass of the online experiences they build with Sitecore. We’ll work to share these lessons and practices at our many customer events and on the customer community. Let us know if you are a Sitecore client and you’d like to measure how your Sitecore solution has helped you achieve your business goals.
My suggestion to you, is the same as last year: If you have access to Gartner, set up an inquiry and tell them what your goals and requirements are, and let them guide you. Be sure to understand and communicate the business goals you expect from your online presence.
